Kindi was born at the Louisville Zoo, but sadly, her mother passed away shortly after giving birth. As an orphaned baby gorilla, her chances of survival were slim without maternal care. However, the dedicated animal care team stepped in to give her a second chance at life.
For months, the caretakers took on the role of Kindi’s surrogate family—feeding her, playing with her, and teaching her essential gorilla behaviors. Thanks to their compassion and patience, Kindi not only survived but began to thrive.
Eventually, she was successfully integrated with another gorilla and became part of a new family group. Kindi’s story is a powerful reminder of resilience, care, and the incredible bond between humans and animals
